One of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean, UNESCO World Heritage site and now home to Kings Landing from Game of Thrones, this city has it all. Also of note, after the break-up of Yugoslavia, Dubrovnik was even besieged by Serbian and Montenegrin Soldiers of the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) for seven months and suffered significant damage from shelling.
Despite a turbulent wartime history, this is a remarkable city to spend time within, no matter what time of day. This was taken from the west harbour and is still one of my favourite pictures from outside the walls.
